Software installation: network
1.Create a subdirectory for this program on the server share where you store student programs. For example: F:\COURSES\your program.
"F" is the mapped drive pointing to the server share where the program will be installed. "COURSES" is the directory where student programs are stored.
"your program" is the subdirectory for the program.
2. Insert the program CD in your CD-ROM drive. Open My Computer. Right Click on your CD-ROM drive and Left Click open. Select the entire contents of the CD and choose Edit/Copy. Paste the contents of the CD to the program folder you created.
3 Inside the folder that you created will be a folder called movies. Right click on this folder and choose properties. Put a check mark in the Read Only box and click apply. Make sure the circle that says “Apply changes to this folder, sub folders and files” is marked and click OK. Click OK on the movies folder properties box.
4. Create a shortcut to the launch.exe file located inside of the program folder you have created on the “all users” desktop or in a location that students will have access to.
Note: The Xtras folder MUST be installed in the program subdirectory.

Loading problems: Windows NT/2000/XP
Reason
In a network environment students may have restricted access and are not allowed to write to the hard disk. Our software embeds certain fonts for display purposes and the fonts are temporarily written to the Windows directory. When a user has restricted access these fonts cannot be written to the hard drive and a font substitution occurs that may make the screen unreadable.
Solution (should be performed by your system admin)
1.Create a "dummy" Power User account. Choose a password and set to "never expires."
2. Edit the shortcut Target line to include the following line before the existing path followed by a space: Runas /savecred /profile /user:xxx (Where xxx is the name of the dummy Power User account.)
3. Log in as a Restricted User.
4. The first time you launch the program from the shortcut, a command line will open. You will be asked for the password for the Power User account that has been created.
5. Enter the password and the program will run with Power User permissions (i.e. can write to the Windows directory).
If the user switches back to the desktop while the program is running they still only have Restricted User permissions. The first time a user executes the shortcut they will be asked for the password, this will only happen on the first occasion.

Running on multiple workstations
For network installations the rootfolder containing the C.W. Publications software and all files inside of the folder need to be marked as Read Only.
From your workstation browse to the root folder.
For Example: f:\apps\courses\oyocc oyocc
Windows: Right click on the folder and choose Properties. Check the Read Only box and click apply. It will ask if you wish to apply the attribute to all files and folders inside of the containing folder, choose Yes to apply the attribute to all files and folders.
Mac: Control + click on the file(s). Select Get Info from the contextual menu that appears. Select Sharing & Permissions (bottom of dialog box). Adjust permissions as necessary. Please note: you may need to unlock the file (padlock on lower right-hand corner of dialog box) with an admin password to make these changes.
